This Privacy Policy explains what information the Dargah Janeta Sharif mobile application and its administration system collect, why we collect it, and what choices you have. Please read it before using the app.
1. Who we are
Dargah Janeta Sharif, Sambhal, India, is responsible for the personal information described here. The app is operated on the Dargah's behalf by its appointed technical team.
For any question about this policy or your information, contact [email protected].
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you give us
When you register as a murid, talib or visitor, or complete your profile in the app, we collect:
- Name and guardian's / father's name
- Mobile number and WhatsApp number
- Email address, where provided
- Date of birth and gender
- Postal address and PIN code
- Occupation and education
- Your Pir's name, your bay'ah year, and how you heard about the Dargah
- Your preferred language
Some of these fields are required to complete your profile; the app will tell you which. You may use much of the app without registering.
2.2 Location information
With your permission, the app uses your device's location to:
- calculate local prayer times for where you are;
- determine the Qibla direction;
- display your current city; and
- update prayer times automatically when you travel.
Location is used on your device to perform these calculations. You can refuse or withdraw location permission at any time in your device settings — prayer times will then fall back to a location you set manually, and the Qibla compass will not function.
2.2a Staff attendance location (Khadims and staff only)
This applies only to members whom the Dargah office has registered as staff and who have activated a staff pass on their phone. It never applies to ordinary murids, talibs or visitors.
After the staff member agrees to an in-app notice, the app collects the phone's precise location in the background, including when the app is closed or not in use, during the duty hours set by the office. A persistent notification is shown while this is running. The location is compared with the Khanqah / Dargah premises to record the staff member's attendance automatically: check-in, check-out, breaks and hours present. Battery level is sent with each report so the office can tell a dead phone from an absence.
- Who can see it: only the Dargah's Admin and Super Admin users in the administration system, and the staff member themself (their own attendance in the app).
- Not shared or sold: it is never shared with third parties or used for advertising, and never used for anything other than staff attendance.
- Retention: raw location points are deleted automatically after the period set by the office (90 days by default); the daily attendance summary is kept as a staff record.
- Control: tracking stops when the staff pass is removed from the phone or the location permission is withdrawn in device settings; where the office allows it, staff can also pause tracking from the staff pass screen.
2.3 Notification tokens
If you allow notifications, Google Firebase Cloud Messaging issues your device a token, which we store so we can send you announcements from the Dargah, prayer reminders and Qur'an reading reminders. We also store your time-zone offset so reminders arrive at the right local time. Disabling notifications in your device settings stops this.
2.4 Activity within the app
To provide features you have chosen to use, we record:
- your Qur'an reading progress, bookmarks, targets and reading streaks;
- your participation in a community Khatm, so pages are not duplicated between readers;
- tasbih and durood counts.
Much of this is stored only on your own device. Where a feature is shared — the community Khatm, for example — the relevant progress is stored on our server so other participants see it.
2.5 Diagnostic information
The app uses Firebase Crashlytics, which collects crash reports and basic technical details such as device model, operating-system version and app version. This helps us fix faults. It is not used to identify you personally.
3. How we use your information
| Purpose | Information used |
|---|---|
| Maintaining the register of murids, talibs and visitors | Profile information |
| Sending Dargah announcements and reminders you have opted into | Notification token, language, time zone |
| Calculating prayer times and Qibla direction | Location |
| Recording attendance of registered staff (staff pass holders only) | Precise background location, battery level |
| Saving your Qur'an progress and Khatm participation | Activity within the app |
| Diagnosing crashes and improving reliability | Diagnostic information |
4. What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not share it with advertisers, and the app carries no advertising.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not use your information for any purpose unrelated to the Dargah and this app.
5. Services we rely on
Some information is necessarily processed by the services that make the app work:
- Google Firebase — push notification delivery and crash reporting.
- YouTube — where the Dargah's videos and live streams are played, YouTube's own terms and privacy policy apply to that playback.
- Qur'an audio providers — recitation and translation audio is streamed from public Islamic audio services, which receive the technical request but no profile information.
- Microsoft Azure — our servers are hosted in Microsoft's cloud.
6. Keeping information secure
All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Access to the administration system is restricted to authorised Dargah administrators. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, but we take reasonable measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information we hold.
7. How long we keep it
Profile information is kept for as long as you remain registered with the Dargah, and is deleted on request. Crash reports are retained for a limited period by Firebase in accordance with Google's retention practices. Information stored only on your device is removed when you uninstall the app.
8. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction — you may ask what we hold about you and have it corrected. Most profile fields can also be edited in the app.
- Deletion — you may ask us to delete your profile and associated records.
- Withdraw permissions — location and notification permissions can be turned off at any time in your device settings, without losing access to the rest of the app.
To make a request, write to [email protected]. We may ask you to confirm your identity before acting on it, so that nobody else can access or delete your information.
9. Children
The app is intended for general use by the Dargah's community and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children without the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will remove it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be announced in the app.
